Kindle Daily Deal! Yay!!

My editor just informed me that The Vanishing Game is a Kindle Daily Deal today! That means Amazon is promoting the Kindle book version and for today only it will be $2.99. This is a great opportunity to boost my book’s visibility, so thank you, Amazon!

It’s especially sweet because Rachel Bruner, my media specialist and webmaster, runs a super great site called Love My (Kindle) Fire. Check it out!

YALSA Best YA Fiction Pick!

I was super excited to get this email from my editor:

Kate, I am very happy to let you know that The Vanishing Game is a 2013 YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults pick! Congratulations! I wasn’t at the ALA conference this month, but I did see a few librarians on twitter saying that the teens really loved the twist ending. Good to hear since that’s my favorite, too!

Ever since I was a little girl, libraries have been a magical place to visit. Walking through the front door, seeing the shelves full of books, and breathing in the special fragrance of all that well-loved paper and ink… there’s nothing quite like it. When my family moved to a new town, it was one of the first things we looked for, along with the movie theater. So getting this kind of validation from librarians feels terrific. Thanks ALA!

It’s Official!

I have some exciting news! Even though the offer on my new manuscript came through late last summer, it’s taken a while to complete negotiations, etc. But now the contract is on its way, and my agent just made the announcement. This is how it appeared in Publisher’s Weekly:

Kate Kae Myers’s THE INVISIBLE BOX, pitched as Westing Game meets Revenge, about a girl who must compete against her conniving family to inherit the family wealth, but her secret mission is to discover the truth about what really happened to the mother she never knew, to Caroline Abbey at Bloombsury Children’s, by Jessica Regel at the Jean V. Naggar Literary Agency.

“The Invisible Box” Book Trailer

The book trailer for Kate’s new book, The Invisible Box, is now up!

If you haven’t yet read the first chapter titled “Escape” be sure to read that too.

Here’s a brief synopsis for Kate’s newest book:

Avery VanDemere says she’s lived her whole life in prisons—one is a mansion, the others are private schools—but prisons, still. That’s why, during the last couple of years, she’s perfected the ability of learning how to escape.

On the brink of finally freeing herself from a hated boarding school, she is unexpectedly returned home and thrust in the middle of a competition. Her grandmother, the family matriarch, is now determined to discover the most worthy VanDemere to be named sole inheritor.

With the help of Riley Tate, the handsome son of her grandmother’s lawyer, Avery sets out to do much more than prove she should inherit the massive family wealth. She has a secret mission of her own, and that’s to discover the truth about what really happened to the mother she never knew.

Along the way she must pass difficult and sometimes perilous challenges, avoid treacherous relatives, and sort out her growing feelings for Riley. She’ll have to act quickly, though; the pressure is on and with each challenge, her competitors are more desperate to win—and to them that means getting rid of Avery.

Going to China!

In the words of my editor: “This Thanksgiving holiday, I’m thankful for the Chinese publisher that just offered on The Vanishing Game!”

I was thrilled to get the news that my book is going to be translated into Chinese! I have always wanted to visit Hong Kong and also see the Great Wall, which probably won’t happen, but now at least my book gets to go! Months ago, I thought it was really cool to learn TVG was going to be read in Germany and France, but this is the most exciting news of all.

Now all I’ve got to do is learn a bit of Mandarin…
