Kate Kae MyersHi! I’m happy to have you visit my blog. If you want to learn more about me, just go to my Bio Page and you’ll find out more stuff than you could possibly want to know. Make sure to visit my books page for detailed information and free downloads for my YA debut novel, The Vanishing Game. (For all media related questions, issues, and requests, including book reviews and author interviews, please contact my media assistant, Rachel Bruner.)

As you see, I’ve decided to do several articles about writing. The idea came about after an evening spent with my author friend Deseret Baker. There were some suggestions I came up with for her based on my past experiences as a writer, and they seemed to both help and enthuse Des. Also, once I started jotting down notes, it surprised me just how much I really did know about the process of writing.

Why is this? Because, in some ways, I feel as if I am the poster child for “What NOT to do” if you want to be an author. And if becoming a writer has a school of hard knocks, then I’ve acquired every skinned knee and bruised shin there is to get. It’s embarrassing to admit, but I’ve made more stupid mistakes in writing and publishing than should be allowed any one person. So now that I’ve finally found myself up this hill a ways, if I can help someone else’s path be a little smoother, then I’m happy to do so. This is the reason I decided to jot down a series of posts about writing.

You might ask what qualifies me to do this? Not much. I have had several adult books published under a different name, but few to acclaim and none to real success. Please don’t go looking for them. If I had my way, I’d torch them all. Still, writing them gave me invaluable practice. And while practice doesn’t really make perfect, it’s amazing how it can at least help us improve at whatever we do: hence the quote at the top of my blog.
